Clients

Individuals

The majority of my clients are adult individuals who are facing problems in the areas of trauma, attachment, communication, emotion regulation, addiction, relationships, depression, self-worth, and anxiety. With good case conceptualization we can see and treat all of these from the same neurobiological basis, for erasure of whatever experiences taught our brain to respond in a certain way. I also work with LBGTQ teens and adults in many areas, and offer letters for gender-confirmation treatments consistent with WPATH standards.

Couples/Families

I am not a licensed marriage and family counselor; I have spent years working with families for grants prioritizing family permanence. When I work with families or couples, the "family" or the "couple" is the client, and I have a "no secrets" policy available in the "Forms" section. Some of the techniques I use such as attachment and trauma therapy, including somatic therapy techniques, communication building skills, and polyvagal therapy are extremely useful for building attunement and understanding in families and couples.

Partnerships

I am thrilled to partner with Susannah Beard, Licensed Massage Therapist, and Healing Touch Practitioner. Susannah and I love to partner up in treating clients with physical and emotional pain to provide a healing experience that not only treats the trauma held in the brain and nervous system of the body, but also the body itself. We know that our bodies "hold" trauma, and that trauma can consist of a physical ailment or injury, but also is defined as: 1) anything that happens a) too much too soon, b) too much for too long, or c) too little for too long. Susannah and I may work conjointly in a session with a client, work together to treat a client back-to-back depending on their needs, or run a workshop/group together to facilitate healing with as many people as possible.

I am also so excited to partner with Mara Giovanni, MSW, Advanced Martial Arts Instructor, to provide a range of services. Mara and I may give a workshop, run a group, or I may engage Mara for individual work with a client. Mara is currently offering services at the Integrative Life Center in Nashville and Onsite in Cumberland Furnace, TN, and offers training across the country in her innovative new therapy, called Kali Connection Therapy. Her private practice information can be found below. Feel free to contact either one of us for an intensive session or group of sessions with both of us to move you more quickly toward health and healing!

More Info:

Kali Connection Therapy is the brainchild of Mara Giovanni. Mara brought her skills in martial arts, coupled with her social work education, and her rigorous study of Trauma, Interpersonal Neurobiology and Somatic Therapy to treatment centers such Onsite and saw the transformative power of these connective, regulating techniques. She has created a program to spread this unique and effective training to other clients, organizations, programs, and mental health therapists.

FAQ's

Q: Do you take insurance?

A: I do not, for several reasons. Generally, I don't enjoy spending my time in administrative tasks. I also think insurance limits the quality and quantity of potential sessions. Lastly, I worry about that the consequences that documenting diagnoses can have on individual's futures.

Q: How much do sessions cost?

A: Sessions range from $100 to $150, based on ability to pay. Sliding scale available, reduced fee for members of the LGBTQIA+ Community.

Q: Do you see clients via telehealth?

A: Yes, through the Simple Practice software.

Q: Do you see teens?

A: Yes, generally ages 16+. I will see clients with gender identity or expression issues who are 13+.

Q: How long does a session last?

A: Sessions are generally 55 minutes. I work hard to respect your time, my time, and my next client's time. If you are receiving EMDR treatment phases 3-7 sessions may be extended to 90 minutes or 120 minutes in order to complete processing, with your permission.

Q: What is your availability?

A: It depends! I will try to work with your schedule to find a time that works for both of us.

Q: How do you take payment?

A: Cash, check, other electronic services. You may make payments via my Electronic Health Record Software: Simple Practice. You may also make payments via Zelle, PayPal, CashApp, and Venmo; those can be completed by clicking here: https://paylinkz.app/braveheart
